Sulekha.com has announced a blogging context for a period of next 6 months. And this context is only for bloggers who use the Sulekha’s blogging platform. As per Sulekha, over the next 6 months, from August 1st to January 31st, 2 blog posts selected every week will get Rs 10,000 cash reward each.
Not only that, it also announced “Blogprint” in association with Penguin books. Over the next 6 months, 25 top entries from its bloggers will be published in a Penguin book. Following is the selection criteria
- The posts can be fiction or non-fiction.
- Fiction can include short stories, flash fiction and comic strips.
- Non-fiction may include interviews, travelogues, feature articles, personal experiences, film reviews, essays and writings on food.
- Posts should be between 1500 and 2200 words.
- Writing(s) which are insightful, grammatically correct, thought provoking, original, have vivid description, are expressive and have innovative use of language will be given preference to.
- Writings could also include comic strips, sketches and photographs.
You could find more information about the context here.
This I believe will definitely increase the user base to Sulekha though it may or may not increase the number of bloggers who actively blog. And needless to say, blogging is in its early stages in India. So is Sulekha really trying to create awareness about blogging in India or is it for driving traffic to its site? What do you think?

Today one of my blog reader has left a comment to my earlier blog post titled ‘11,000 people loose job due to rupee appreciation in India’, link here, that IBM India lays off 250 professionals yesterday. This comment is from one of the IBM India employee. So I believe this is credible information, since it’s from an insider.
In my previous blog post (link here), I was talking about the effects of rupee appreciation in India and one of them being 11,000 people loosing job in textile / export industry. I did expect it’s going to soon hit the IT industry in India, however didn’t expect it to be so fast.
If you are reading this post and if you know of any other lay offs in the IT / BPO sector in India please do send in your comments.
