AutoIndia.com clearly leads the Auto Portal space in India
Gone are the days where you could see only Ambassadors, Fiats and Maruti’s on the road. Now you could see zillions of new models on the road. The world came to know pretty late, that we Indians have a great taste for new Car models, though the road conditions are not that good. Automobiles market is in rise in India and many new startups have spun the Automobile industry and the Internet together to provide useful information to the consumer. Here are some of the major auto portals in India and the features they offer. I have also listed the Alexa rankings for them.
- You could buy either a used car or a new car
- You could sell your cars
- Apply for a Loan
- Apply for Insurance
- Compare between car models
- Get a list of Dealers by city
- Get detailed Car specs and features
- Tips and Advice
- Get reviews about the cars
- It’s only for cars not for other automobiles
- No certification for used cars – which will be really helpful for the buyer if they want to buy a used car
- It’s only for buying new cars
- Compare new cars with other models
- Get dealers information
- Has an EMI calculator
- You could create a profile and save your searches
- Buy new and used cars
- Sell your car
- Get certified before selling your car, definitely adds value
- Could shop for accessories – gets you to the customer service, no online interface
- Apply for a Loan
- Apply for Insurance
- Get information about registering your auto
- The web interface is not that good when compared to other competitors, it’s very basic
- Buy and sell any automobile (cars, bikes, commercial vehicles, etc)
- Buy and Sell Used and New automobiles
- Search for certified automobiles (but there is no information about how one could get the vehicles certified)
- Find dealers
- Apply for Loan
- Apply for Insurance
- You could do research and compare
- Find reviews and ratings
- Gets Tips and advice
- Free auto listing site
- You could get an RSS feed of the listings
- Dealers could also register and add their listings to the site
A comparison chart of the features they offer
Alexa ranking comparison
AutoIndia clearly leads the Auto Portal space in India by providing all necessary features when compared to other competitors and also out-paces its competitors by getting most of the web traffic.

Thanks for providing the comprehensive comparison. But I guess you have missed a few things about CarWale.com.
1. Used Car Valuation System provides used car values for 17 years and 20 cities.
2. Car Recommendation System helps new car buyers to take decision faster.
3. EMI Calculator: Perhaps we were the first one to launch it in India.
4. Insurance Premium Calculator: If I am not wrong then we are the only one who has it and provides correct and comprehensive premium.
5. Country-wide on-road prices of almost all new cars.
6. We have the most happening user community i.e. blog, user reviews, answers and forums (with thousands of reads/views/posts daily) among the competition.
I don’t think there is any well-established car certification system in India. And Alexa.com rankings are of no use to Indian consumers.

Hi!
Firstly, I’d like point out a couple of significant omissions in the comparisons i.e. IndiaAutomobile.com and CarSalesIndia.com.
Secondly, I’d recommend that you use all the sites and decide for yourself as to which one is better rather than drawing up superficial cursory comparisons which may misguide readers of this blog.
FYI,
A. Automartindia is an offline company. They left the online spce many mahy years ago. So it should not be a part of this comparison at all.
B. BharathAutomobile.com is an inactive site. Also, they had their testimonials section (with the testimonials in place) up and running on the day they launched. So you can pretty much draw your conclusions on them.
C. Of the rest of the sites mentioned, AutoIndia.com would probably be the weakest player. If you scan through their content, you would clearly know what I’m saying. Their Alexa rating seems to be manipulated to me. True traffic can be estimated by seeing responses to a few sample listings on each of the site.
Amongst the sites mentioned, I personally would vote for CarWale.com followed by DriveInside.com. And would like to invite users on this blog to personally check IndiaAutomobile.com as well and judge for themselves as to where it stands up amongst the sites mentioned.
Regards,
Nimish

Good comparrison. I think AutoIndia.com and Carwale are the leading Indian Auto portals.
Other portals which are not really focussed especially…from baharthmatrimony(indiautomobile)..trying put their hands everywhere and loosing their matrmony marketspace to shaadi.com. Shaadi also launching real estate portal to grab their real estate marketplace. An advice to matrimony…Just do good whatever you are doing.
Good job Go2IndiaWeb20
Thanks,
Vaibhav

Hi All,
Looks like there is digg fight going on between portal owners(Banwari from Carwale and Nimish from Carazoo). Please stay away from user generated content. We as ‘readers’ are not here to listen you strengths and weakness and we really don’t care what ever crap you are putting it here. So STAY OUT OF OUR DIGG COMMUNITY.

A small correction. Nimish is from Indiaautomobile Business Dev Manager…not from Carazo

Wow there is big fight going on here. Few points…No body cares what a vehicle recommender says. Indian consumers are not from Moon to use a vehicle recommender as if they are seeing the cars for the first time. Please read the consumer trends in India. Before we walks into a dealer we know what we want to buy.
Now lets goto the car valuation system…Its a good tool provided you yourself should valuate the price and sell your car for that price?
We are not using black money to buy our cars. We are using our handful of savings to buy a car. So when we sell it ,we decide about our car price….It cannot be judged by any third party companies who uses a basic depreciation formulae.
Next one is …Indiaautomobile features…You should have your own reviews about the cars. We are not here to read what autocar released last month. Are you trying tickle the consumers?
BharathAutomobile.com is an inactive site???…Tickle me again and again….How many do you goto internet per day?hihihi..
BTW Kiran…Nimish V Adani is the product manager of indiaautomobile…
Banwari Lal Sharma is the self car reveiwer in carwale…look at who is playing games here.

To be fair I have used bharathautomobiles.com and the site is very active and simple to use; many dealers in Hyderabad at least know about this portal and sold cars.
They also have section on tips by a real mechanic
just my 2 cents worth
more good competition better for every one

Yes, Indians are not to be taken away by advertisements and big names, coz they spend every bit of their penny in the most thought-out and optimum manner. This is the case everywhere, so is it in the auto marketplace too.
As far as Ecommerce is concerned, there is no wonder why ecom companies are there in todays world. Online matrimony was once considered wobbly and unsafe, but gone are those days. So is the case with automobiles too..
Finally to judge on portals, theres no need to try convince/persuade/mislead (…or whatever one can say) active internet users.;, coz they very well know the responsiveness and usability of sites.
Iam also a regular surfer of these sites, and since 2004-05, ive been actively using auto portals for vehicle reviews, comments, prices and just about anything i can (the Buying Decision, no doubt, is the supreme sovereignty of the Buyer), and personally i feel AutoIndia is the Best in India.
FYI, Alexa is no mean nut, that they can be mislead as mentioned above [or you just maybe wondering why the porn sites that you poll on heavily doesnt feature at all in Alexa :))) ]

Great comments here. Thank you for the participation. Right now I’m working on a simillar kind of comparison regarding social bookmarking sites in India. Look out for that. Thank you.

Well Amit,
1. ‘Indian buyer’ term doesn’t refer to you only. There are many buyers in India who really don’t know which car suits them best. So, there IS a need of an unbiased recommendation system.
2. If everybody really knows what price should they pay or ask then there might not have been these many used car dealers/brokers. Indian car market is highly immature and needs a strong valuation system. No matter your money is white or black but you really can’t decide your car price in absence of a system/advice. You still ask a dealer what price can he offer.
3. Car Valuation is a formula? Why don’t you open a site with this formula? Trust me it’s a hit. We have provided 7 lakh valuations so far.
4. I never hid my identity. Look at my last post. Yes, I am from CarWale.com

Hello Banwari,
You are really undersestimating Indian buyers. We know what we want all the time especially when we are spending a good amount of money. We are well educated and not to look at a website and decide what we need to buy. Camon buddy give me a break. We are not buying cell phone or a music system or a washing machine here. We really don’t care what your website says. Who knows you are getting paid from car manufacturers to display their cars. Indian cosumer power above your expectations.
Car Valuation:- Your car valuation system really sucks. Its just basic depreciation formulae and any basic econmics student knows about this. There are many guys started giving this valuation in India….cartradeindia and some delhi based portal as well and so on…So whom do we need to believe. Whom do we need to believe here….This proves that any tom and dick can bring in a valuation system.
If you really need I can even publish a formulae here.

[…] CarWale One of the leading auto portals in India. You could buy and sell cars through this portal. You could also apply for loans and insurance through this site. You could read reviews about cars and compare car models. It’s a great source to get yourself educated and to make informed decisions, when you are about to buy a car. You could read my previous post about the Auto Portal space in India here. […]
